Tutoring at the Center takes place on Mondays, Fridays, and Saturdays for elementary-aged children. Batahola Volunteer, Samuel Estes, periodically gets called in to help with games or activities. He’s also good at origami, and so this time taught the kids how to make paper dogs. Tutoring is required of children who are scholarship recipients (receiving a monthly economic aid for school costs), and is given by older scholarship students at the Center. A snack time of soy is also offered to the children, in an effort to improve their nutrition. Mothers and care-takers of the scholarship children assist in preparing soy patties, tortillas, and oatmeal drink.
