On Friday, a group of over twenty people from the Center crammed into a mini-bus heading towards downtown Managua. Carrying banners, drums, and donning folkloric costumes, the Center joined a large march on one of the main streets of Managua to demand equality, justice, and independence for women. This is part of the Center’s mission–constructing avenues for women to find their independence, working toward equality and justice for all, and celebrating artistic creativity.
While part of the Center marched downtown in the large march, and equally important march was held in the nearby barrio of Jorge Dimitrov, where the Center has a gender-based violence-prevention program. This was the first march for International Women’s Day ever held in Dimitrov. The turnout of community members, along with police and governmental figures, was a big success. Congratulations to the Center’s team working hard in that barrio!
