Photo of the Day

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Sandino, Nicaraguan revolutionary and leader of a rebellion against the U.S. military occupation in 1927 and 1933. He is a national hero–an iconic image with his cowboy hat. He was a symbol of resistance to U.S. domination and was inspiration for the Sandinista revolution in 1979, which overthrew the Somoza dictatorship.

Photo of mural taken at the Lomo de Tiscapa (Tiscapa Hill) on the site where Somoza used to have a palace and torture prisoners.
