Two girls from the Folkloric dance class at the Center. They had just finished performing a Nicaraguan dance called la Mora Limpia at September’s annual “Kermes” fundraiser for Scholarship students at the Center. I was trying to find a translation of the song title: The best I could find was the explanation that it literally means Clean Blackberry, or Blackberry Cleans. This may come from this saying:
“La mancha de mora con mora verde se quita” (blackberry stains are deleted with green blackberries). In other words, the best way to forget an old love is to get a fresh one.
I’m not sure the girls dancing understand the meaning of the lyrics, but they sure knew how to dance it!
