  1. not entirely sure, but I think a painter’s collective once came to Batahola, in the 1980’s to give mural workshops to kids. They then moved north to Estelí, where they established an NGO called FunARTE–I believe they work with children and youth, teaching them how to make murals, and have filled that city with them.   2. Yes, the Boanerges Cerrato Collective worked at Batahola from 1985 to 1987. The Collective was made up of international painters — from Argentina, Spain, France, England — and taught in Batahola during those two years. Their last project here was the New Dawn mural that is in our chapel area. This year is the 25th anniversary of that mural.

    • Thanks Jennifer for that information. I know I’ve read it somewhere (actually, I think in the book they wrote about mural workshops, of which we have a copy here in the library). Will we have any special celebration of the mural? perhaps reminding people of the history in some way?
