Introduction: the Area of Teaching/Docencia

A neighborhood choir and basic education course were the start of Father Angel and Sister Margarita’s vision over 30 years ago. Today, the area of Docenciaor Teaching, is the main backbone of what the CCBN (Cultural Center of Batahola Norte) offers to the community and what it is often most sought out for. Every year, more than 500 people are trained at the Center, with 15 technical courses offered, with 20 teachers in total. These courses are approved by the Ministry of Education and the Nacional Technical Institute, and are divided into three categories: basic education for adults, courses for women’s empowerment (domestic-type classes), and technical training.

The area of teaching tries to not only give students a strong technical training, but also aims to teach in a way that helps each student develop to their full potential as human beings. This comes back to the mission of CCBN, which is holistic education that helps people discover their human rights, self-esteem and equality.

A mural painted on the outside of the CCBN (Cultural Center of Batahola Norte) lists most of the courses offered throughout the year. It may be a little out of date..
